NRD-UNISS at Cascina Triulza - Milan 9th May 2016
On 9th May 2016, the Desertification Research Centre of University of Sassari, took part to the initiative “Human Factory- Ricerca & Società civile per l'Innovazione Sociale” (http://www.fondazionetriulza.org/it/news/2016/04/12/save-the-date-9-maggio-human-factory-day-in-cascina-triulza/3659/).
This event, organized by the Fondazione Triulza in the Expo area, aimed at creating a sharing opportunity for professionals and practitioners in the field of social services, civil economy and researchers dealing with all disciplines. It has been a open and participatory day with an institutional conference in the morning, thematic workshops in the afternoon and an exhibition area where research centres and universities had the opportunity to give visibility to the scientific and technological research results. NRD set up an exhibition desk to present its research and cooperation activities concerning the fight against desertification and the sustainable management of natural resources for rural development in Africa.
Three development projects implemented by NRD have been presented: the Ghaja (http://hostweb3.ammin.uniss.it/ghaja/index.html) and JEF (http://www.jefproject.org) projects focused on the use of Jatropha curcas to mitigate the effects of soil degradation, create income-generating activities and improve access to sustainable energy sources in Ghana and Burkina Faso, and the Wadis-Mar project (http://www.wadismar.eu/), implemented in Tunisia and Algeria aimed at achieving an integrated sustainable and participatory water management, in order to enhance rural populations adaptation strategies to climate change.
