Cultural anthropology
The course objectives are: to provide the basic knowledge related to the history of ethno-anthropological disciplines; to examine the main theoretical and methodological approaches of this subject area; to provide the basic skills for conducting ethnographic research; to deepen critically the interpretation capacity of contemporary phenomena considering relevance and effectiveness of the ethno-anthropological perspective; to examine a classic theme in the study: the mask, the Carnival and its interpretations
Ethnology
The course objectives are: to provide the basic knowledge related to the Ethnology; to examine the perspectives of the discipline within the diversity of cultures typical of the contemporary age; illustrate the wealth and breadth of cultural heritage non-European with specific reference to the mythical-ritual dimension of the masks
Cultural anthropology
The course will deepen the theoretical and methodological orientations of cultural anthropology, paying particular attention to some key concepts such as culture, ethnocentrism, cultural relativism, identity/otherness, cultural diversity, cultural heritage, as well as the criteria and techniques of documentation and analysis. We will then investigate the interpretations and dynamics of Carnival; the meanings, forms and functions of the masks; the heritage-making processes of Carnival; the masks and Carnivals of Sardinia in the third millennium.
Ethnology
The course will focus on the theories and methodologies of ethnology, in particular by analyzing cultural diversity, the complexity of local and global cultures, the dynamics of construction and sociocultural representation. Finally, attention will be focused on masking practices, the mythical-ritual dimension of the Carnival and the representation of the mask in non-European contexts.
