Intermediate tests. Written and oral examination.
At the end of the course, the students will acquire the main knowledege on the structure of matter and chemical transformations, with particular reference to the environmental chemistry. They will learn the basic principles of the atomic structure, chemical bonding, properties and geometry of the molecules and molecular interactions. The course will provide the fundamentals of the functional groups of organic molecules and the background of mineralogy and biochemistry. The student will acquire also the knowledge to solve the main stoichiometric problems.
Matter. Atoms and atomic structure. Periodic table of the elements. Chemical bonding. Intermolecular interactions. Chemical nomenclature. Stoichiometry and chemical reactions. Organic chemistry and biochemistry. Exercitations in the laboratory.
