Lectures (17 hours)
Bactericides and bacteriostatic drugs. Empirical therapy and established infections. Factors to choice an antibiotic. Classification of chemo-antibiotics. Mechanisms of action. Bacterial resistance. Natural and acquired resistance. Inhibitors of cell wall synthesis: ß-lactam antibiotics (Penicillins, Cephalosporins) Monobactams and Carbapenems; other drugs that act on the cell wall. Protein synthesis inhibitors: Tetracyclines, Aminoglycosides, Phenicols, Macrolides and Lincosamides. Metabolism inhibitors: Sulfonamides and diaminopyrimidines. Drugs acting on nucleic acids: Quinolones, Fluoroquinolones and Rifamycins. Antiprotozoal drugs: anticoccidial drugs and drugs used to treat toxoplasmosis. Anthelmintic drugs.
Practical training (7 hours)
