Knowledge of Roman history, from the founding of Rome to the fall of the Roman Empire in the West, through the use of literary and epigraphic and archaelogical sources. Knowledge of institutions and society with particular reference to the Republican and Imperial age.

The division of the empire: from the Constantinidi to Theodosius; The Church in the society and culture in the Lower Empire; The Empire and the Roman-barbarian kingdoms.
