Good knowledge of basic organic chemistry
Objective of the course is to teach both basic aspects and recent results of research activity in the field of polar organometallic chemistry with application to organic synthesis. The laboratory experiences will introduce students to the handling and manipulation of substances sensitive to air and moisture.
Using organometallic reagents to make carbon-carbon bonds. Carbon-metal bonds in polar organometallic compounds. Preparation and employment of Grignard reagents. Preparation and employment of organo-lithium, -sodium and –potassium reagents. Generation of polar organometallic reagents under Birh reduction conditions.
