The course aims to train students to become knowledgeable on the structures and functions related to bacteria, viruses, and eukariotic microorganisms and, specifically, on the following topics: genetic features, metabolism, host and environment interaction, immune response to microbial infection.
Further, the student must deepn her/his knowledge on the molecular mechanisms of DNA recombination in bacteria and viruses, and must gain strong skills in bacterial genetics techniques enabling production of mutant strains, their functional screening and evaluation. She/he must become proficient about genetic transfer systems in recombinant bacteria.
