At the end of the course the student will acquire knowledge and understanding of the interactions between host and infectious agent and their routes of transmission to humans. The student will also acquire knowledge and understanding of the principal infectious diseases affecting the respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary tract. Systemic viral infections causing monocleosis syndrome, HIV infection and viral hepatitis will also be covered. In consideration of the specific knowledge needs of the professional profile, the student will particularly acquire knowledge and understanding of the infectious diseases of the genital tract, including sexually transmitted infections and the major pathogens (TORCH complex) affecting the woman during pregnancy.
For all topics covered, the student will be also able to independently describe the clinical pictures and to evaluate the most correct management and therapeutic approach in accordance with the data of the most recent scientific literature (Evidence Based Medicine).
