Students should know algebra and the Euclidean geometry. The knowledge of elements of trigonometry is also required.
The exam will consist in a written and oral test.
The objective of the course is to teach students the use of the essential mathematical tools for studying the quantitative and economic subjects of the graduate course. Moreover students should learn to develop abstract models to analyze real problems.
Exploratory data analysis (EDA); graphs and tables; measures of central tendency and variation; probability and probability distributions of data; the normal distribution; the t-Student distribution; confidence interval of mean; the statistical test for mean. The concept of real function of one real variable. Limits and continuity. Derivatives of functions of one real variable; study of the function’s pattern. Concept of integral of a real function. Indefinite (antiderivative function) integral. Definite integral for area calculation. Detailed study of the principal mathematical models for food technology. The population growth model with carrying capacity; the logistic model.
