At the end of the course the student must demonstrate:
- Be familiar with the principles of the medical statistics and know the statistical terminology adopted in the scientific research to describe populations and samples.
- To possess adequate knowledge on the probability, the statistical inference, and on the methodological tools adopted to understand the design of a scientific study.
- To acquire the statistical techniques for the appropriate interpretation of the findings of a scientific study.
Evidence-based medicine. Observational and experimental studies. Design of a scientific study. Assessment of a scientific article. Statistical terminology. Variables. Principles of uni-, bi-, and multivariate statistics. Frequency distribution. Plots and tables.
Central tendency indicators. Variability indicators.
Principles of probability. Diagnostic test indicators. Normal probability distribution.
Population and sample. Sampling techniques. Hypothesis test. Correlation and regression.
