Lectures (The topics are distributed in blocks of about 1 ECTS each):
1 credit:
Analysis of the phenomenon and investigation of the causes
This credit will provide the basic information to understand the appearance of the phenomenon, which is prevalent human origin, with particular emphasis to the predisposing factors and determinants.
Particular attention will be given to illustrate the relationship between physical factors (wind, slope, environmental factors, fuel types and their accumulation) and dynamic of the outbreak, with illustration of simple prediction of easy utilization behavior techniques
The investigation of the causes deepen the aspect of the motivations, highlighting techniques and procedures can be activated in order to better tackle it also in operational terms (with application of fire analysis MEF)
2 credit
Planning and stages of integrated fighting forest fires
In this credit we will analyze the phases of integrated fighting forest fires in particular: forecast (analysis of risk), direct and indirect prevention and active struggle and passive.
As part of control techniques will delve into the following topics: analysis of the columns of smoke and air stability, recognition of predisposing factor which most propagates the fire; L.A.C.E.S Protocol; the language of the Campbell's forecasting system)
3 credit
Insights on the fire behavior of the forecasting methods: Application
In this credit we will delve into recent techniques of fire behavior prediction by the use of different simulation programs used for the analysis of the fire behavior parameters (Visual Behave, Behave Plus).
In particular in this credit the use of such instruments will be mainly analyzed in the context of the application of the prescribed fire technique, preventive management tool that provides utilization of fire for the reduction of hazardous accumulation of combustible before the environmental conditions become critical .
4 credit
Technical restoration areas covered
This credit will face the problems of the assessment of the damage to the plants, immediately after the passage of fire, the diagnosis simpler activated on the ground, with identification of sustainable interventions to load the main existing woodlands in the region:
• reforestation of coppice deciduous conifers.
• illustration will be subject to recovery techniques for the degraded formations by remote events
5 credit
Exercise: use of fire behavior prediction software and identification of fuel types and their detection on the ground to provide input to Behave Plus in the field
