MEDIA ANTHROPOLOGY
Conventional oral exam regarding the course topics.
The course intends to provide the following formative objectives:
- insights on cultural bases of communication and on social acceptance of technologies;
- elements of social history of media and social history of technological innovation;
- media as form of consumption and instruments for enjoyment of cultural industry products;
- qualitative and ethnographic methodological elements for media studies.
The course concerns above all media according to the following contents:
- elements of social history of media and technological innovation in mass communication (XX and XXI centuries);
- ethnographic approach to the study of communication technologies
- social acceptance of communication technologies in various social and cultural contexts;
- technology and use of cultural industry products (music, cinema, etc.);
- mobile phones, computers, and Internet in the contemporary technology landscape;
- social uses of communication technologies in everyday life;
- storytelling in contemporary media.
