The course provides the student with general notions essential for basic knowledge on radiotherapy. Particularly:
Types of radiation that can be used for therapeutic purposes and equipment. The various techniques (external beam, brachytherapy) and the main machines used in radiotherapy (LINAC); the treatment modalities and the purposes of radiant therapy; the various planning steps.
The concept of absorbed dose and its unit of measure and the various fractions used in the cure are explained.
Side effects to both acute and late therapy in the various districts are developed, as well as tolerance doses.
They are therefore addressed from the point of view of the use of radiation therapy for curative purposes the most widespread tumors such as the breast in women and the prostate in men, and the rectum; the problem of radiotherapy for palliative purposes and the treatment of radiodermatitis as an adverse effect are also addressed.
This is because at the end of the course the student has essential basis to know the radiotherapy, its main applications, the potentials and notions about radioprotection of the patient.
