THEORETICAL LESSONS

• The importance of the correct animal signalment in the general physical examination.
• The completion of an accurate the medical record.
• Overview of the physiology of the cardiovascular system.
• The importance of evaluating the mucous membranes and arterial pulse during the general physical examination.
• Examination of the cardiovascular system of dogs, cats and horses: inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation.
• Clinical utility of the main cardiovascular exams for the evaluation of the cardiocirculatory system with particular reference to the electrocardiogram, thoracic radiology, echocardiography and blood pressure measurement in dogs, cats and horses.
• Aetiology, pathogenesis, anamnesis, signalling, clinical presentation, clinical signs and diagnosis of valvular diseases, primary and secondary myocardiopathies, most common congenital cardiac diseases, systemic and pulmonary hypertension, pathologies of the right heart, pericardial effusion, atrial fibrillation and cardiocirculatory shock of the dog, cat and horse.
• Projection and discussion of chest radiographs, echocardiographic and electrocardiographic examinations.
• Overview of the physiology of the respiratory system.
• Clinical examination of the respiratory system of dogs, cats and horses: inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation.
• Aetiology, pathogenesis, anamnesis, signalling, clinical presentation, clinical signs and diagnosis of: rhinitis in dogs and cats, sinusitis and adenitis in horses, tracheo-bronchitis in dogs and cats, tracheal collapse and chronic bronchopathies in dogs, feline asthma, RAO in horses , pulmonary oedema, pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis in dogs, pulmonary thromboembolism, exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage from in horses, pleural diseases.

• Clinical examination of the cardiocirculatory system of dogs, cats and horses: inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation. Execution of an electrocardiogram and measurement of systemic blood pressure.
• Practical activities on clinical examination of the respiratory system of dogs, cats and horses: inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation. Execution of thoracic ultrasonographic examinations.
