In the last decades, tourism allowed destinations to experience economic and social development. However, the negative externalities of mass travel industry recently raised tourists' awareness. The negative economic, socio-cultural, and environmental impacts of tourism resulted in a switch towards alternative and more sustainable holidays. Thus, firms are increasingly pushed to adopt sustainable business strategies, such as CSR.
This course aims to provide students with theories and practices to understand the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in tourism and hospitality.
More in particular, at the end of the course, students will be able:
1. to learn relevant theories of CSR;
2. To learn how CSR applies to tourism firms (i.e., hotel, tour operators);
3. to link CSR and responsible tourism.
