Lectures (19 hours)
Bactericides and bacteriostatic drugs. Empirical therapy and established infections. Factors to choice an antibiotic. Classification of chemoantibiotics. Mechanisms of action. Bacterial resistance. Natural and acquired resistance. Inhibitors of cell wall synthesis: ß-lactam antibiotics (Penicillins, Cephalosporins) and not; other drugs that act on the cell wall. Protein synthesis inhibitors: Tetracyclines, Aminoglycosides, Phenicols, Macrolides and Lincosamides. Metabolism inhibitors: Sulfonamides and diaminopyrimidines. Drugs acting on nucleic acids. Quinolones, Fluoroquinolones and Rifamycins. Antiprotozoal drugs: anticoccidial drugs and drugs used to treat toxoplasmosis.
Practical training (5 hours)
