At the end of the course, the student will have learned to study, know and recognize the most common inheritance diseases in the various breeds of dogs and cats. In particular, he/she will be able to highlight the genetic basis of these pathologies and to perform the most appropriate screening on the individual subject and/or its progeny by acquiring the tools needed to identify the sick and, where possible, the carriers of the disease, so reducing the incidence of serious illnesses within the dog and feline populations, with particular attention to the final option given to individual owners or breeders of "NO BREEDING" or "BREEDER OPTION" linked to their own type of the highlighted disorder and its severity. For this purpose, he/she will be able to correctly read the information contained in a pedigree, evaluate the degree of kinship between the possible reproducers and then make the most appropriate choice of subjects to mate in order to avoid the most common and recognized genetic pathologies.
