In innovative and international contexts, the knowledge of communication logics and digital media’s social implications is increasingly requested for the activities of analysis, evaluation, planning, decision carried on by economic operators and business managers.

The course aims to provide the student with the basic knowledge on:
(1) the theories developed in social sciences on the relationship between digital media and the social, cultural, economic, labor, and political sphere;
(2) the studies concerning characteristics, logics and communication practices of digital media;
(3) the data sources about the digitalization processes and the new forms of exclusion in the information society.

At the end of the course, the student will acquire:
(1) knowledge and understanding of: the social implications of communication in digital environments, the logics of digital media, and the ongoing transformation of digital communication
(2) ability to apply knowledge and understanding: connecting theories/concepts on digitization with specific case studies and with his/her direct experiences of digital communication
(3) ability to make judgments: autonomy in the interpretation and critical analysis - through the identification of documented explanations - of the complex social phenomena connected to the digitization processes
(4) communication ability: ability to interact with both the professor and the fellow students during the class; ability to apply a specific lexicon to the analysis of social phenomena related to communication innovations and digital media
(5) learning skills: ability to orient herself/himself among the main resources useful to update the contents of the course in an active and autonomous way
