SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY
Oral examination.
Courses L12, L15 (30 hours, 6 CFU)
The course aims to provide basic knowledge concerning main theories, methodological guidelines and a representative overview of research themes in contemporary social anthropology.
The course also aims to provide
- a basic preparation to be able to deal with courses in the same scientific-disciplinary sector in the context of master degree courses;
- tools for understanding social and cultural processes of the contemporary world in relation to the educational purposes of the three-year degree courses.
Courses L12, L15 (30 hours, 6 CFU)
The course will cover the following topics:
- origin and sense of social and cultural anthropology;
- themes, methods and essential feature of social and cultural anthropology;
- race, genes and culture;
- historical forms of adaptation;
- orality and writing;
- interpretations of magic and mythological thinking;
- identity, body, person; sex, gender, emotion;
- castes, social classes and ethnic groups;
- kinship;
- religious practices;
- rites;
- globalization and new cults, media, politics, fundamentalism;
- cultural creativity and “tribal” arts in western countries;
- power and economic resources: forms of economic organization and politics.
Course L39 (45 hours, 9 CFU)
The course will cover the following topics:
