AUDIOVISUAL LANDSCAPES
The assessment method is primarily based on student participation in the form of a dialogue between the teacher and the students during the lectures and the seminars. At the end of the module students will be required to take an oral exam in which they will be asked to identify and put into context some excerpts from the films discussed in class and to answer questions related to the topics of the module.
The module is designed to provide students with a basic knowledge of film and audio-visual language, with specific attention to the representation of real as well as symbolic landscapes, in different historical periods and production contexts.
The module is divided into two parts. The first lectures will focus on the birth and establishment of the cinematic institution, with an introduction to the main currents and experiences in the history of cinema. The second part of the module will focus on the relationship between cinema and landscape, with specific attention to the representation of urban landscapes in Fascist cinema, in Neorealism, in genre cinema (noir), in modern cinema and in specific contemporary productions.

This will be followed by a close analysis of some of the film's key features.
