Assessment Methods

Verification of learning:

Written exam. The exam is made up of five questions. No more than 10 lines for each answer. Total time one hour. Students must demonstrate to have acquired a complete range of information to solve autonomously problems regarding animal welfare.

Objectives

The course “Animal welfare” is about the scientific pathway walked by authors and scientists who contributed to create the modern model of animal welfare. Topics presented by the course will be useful for students to acquire the knowledge to perform an independent evaluation of animal welfare. In addition, students will learn to search the right and unbiased documents both in the scientific and legal literature.
The course aims to stimulate students to be, in their next professional activities, a main figure to evaluate and discuss about animal welfare.

Contents

Introduction and definition of animal welfare; evaluation of animal welfare; institutions involved in animal welfare evaluation; veterinarians and animal welfare; laws regarding animal welfare.

Teaching materials: presentations of lectures and documents provided by the teacher (PowerPoint and PDF files).
N.B.: presentations of lectures should be considered as a summary of the course and they are intended as a guideline for exam preparation.

Teaching Methods

The course is made up of theoretical lectures held in the classroom. The lecturer discusses with students about the topics and the methods to search the documents about animal welfare.
