HISTORY OF LATIN LANGUAGE
Oral exam. Particularly, the comprehension of structures and main mechanisms of transformation of the Latin language will be assessed, and also the ability to grasp the basic features of the language in relation both to the literary genres (diachronic level), and to various layers (synchronic level), and the ability of the student to understand the texts in the original language.
The course aims to raise awareness of the Latin language from the school level, purely descriptive and normative, to an historical-evolutionary view of the language, and aims also to build philological and stylistic competencies (also to
correctly read and understand documents and sources).
General explanation of the history of Latin language. Archaic and vulgar latin. Apuleius' language.
I. Mazzini, Storia della lingua latina e del suo contesto, vol. I, Linguistica e lingua letteraria, Salerno editrice, Roma 2007 (sections specifically dedicated to the "Language" are required: for each chapter are also required the fourth and the fifth paragraphs).
