The main objective of this module is to implement the notions of biology providing the student with the information necessary for understanding the fundamentals of General and Clinical Microbiology. Specifically, the course will be aimed at teaching the basic morphological, metabolic, genetic and functional characteristics of microorganisms, emphasizing the importance that these play in the maintenance of life on our planet. Then, the complex Host/Microrganism interactions, microbial virulence factors, and host defensive capabilities will be analyzed. Finally, the different methods of infection control will be examined. The concepts imparted will be optimized for the students to whom they are addressed. At the end of the module, each student can integrate them with the theoretical knowledge acquired in the other biological disciplines of the course and with the practical activity gained in the hospital ward. Furthermore, the knowledge of the General and Clinical Microbiology, in the student''''s training course, will be preparatory for the study of Pharmacology, Hygiene and other clinical disciplines.
