Objectives

GEOLOGY APPLIED FOR ENVIRONMENTAL DEFENCE:
The aim of the course is to provide students the necessary geological knowledge to characterize a territory and protect it in terms of environment. With students topics related to the geological evolution of an area human and /or not influenced are discussed. All the useful geological methods to inquiry the environment will be presented. In particular, problems related to natural and human-induced climate changes and how these may have changed on different scales the environment will be approached.

Contents

Elements of Geology (the earth composition, rocks, faults, folds). The movement of the crust (earthquakes, subsidence, erosion). Geological maps. The thematic maps. Geological hazards (floods, landslides). Renewable and non-renewable resources (quarries, mines). Water as a resource. Climate change. Economic geology.
