Objectives

Provide the student with basic knowledge about built-up rural dimension and topography.

Contents

Loads. Static. Hooke's law. Beams. Calculation and diagrams of axial force, shear stress, and bending moment.

Building materials: ceramic products; binders; steel; concrete; reinforced concrete. Construction elements: vertical structures: pillars, load-bearing walls and non-load-bearing infill walls; horizontal structures: foundations, beams, floors and roofs; prefabricated elements.

Construction and rural construction. Design and construction of rural buildings. Basic elements of technical drawing.

Zootechnical buildings: environmental sustainability; authorization for polluting emissions into the atmosphere; animal welfare. Stages of zootechnical design. Agro-zootechnical buildings for dairy cows. Stables for fattening livestock. Sheep stables.

Outline of territorial and landscape planning. European Landscape Convention. 'Urbani code' and planning seasons in Italy. Regional landscape plan (outline). hydrogeological system plan (outline). Municipal master plan (outline). Regional directive for agricultural areas.

Italian Technical Standards of Construction 2018 and explanatory circular 2019. Minimum environmental criteria, nZEB, and BIM.

Task for the student: preparation of a short report concerning a rural building.

Elements of elementary trigonometry: sine, cosine, tangent and inverse functions. Carnot theorem. Sinus theorem. Heron's formula. Resolution of triangles and polygons with more than three sides. Distance between two inaccessible but visible points. Cartesian and polar coordinates. Azimuth calculation.

Geoid. Ellipsoid. Ellipsoids used in Europe and Italy. Local sphere. Plan and topographic field. Distance and altitude: spherical errors. Geoid quota and orthometric height. Parallelism error in local verticals. Adapt the distances to the reference surface. Reference systems. Topographic operations: the DATUM.

The topographic survey: framing networks; densification; detail survey. Densifining planimetric networks through triangulations (outlines): forward intersection; operational suggestions for the intersection forward; lateral intersection; inverse intersection. Densifining planimetric networks through polygonations.
