It would be useful to have a background knowledge of the History of ancient philosophy.
It would also be useful (though not necessary) to have a background knowledge of Ancient Greek.
The main purpose of this course is that of enabling the student to reconstruct the arguments of an ancient philosophical text, to appreciated and value the specificity of philosophical writing (especially that of Plato), to be able to understand a complex philosophical text with a conceptual, interpretive and ''philological'' background awareness.
The course will mainly focus on Plato''s ''Theaetetus'': the dialogue will be read and commented almost in its entirety. Some texts from Plato''s ''Meno'' and Plato''s ''Republic'' will be also read and commented, but the course will essentially concern the ''Theaetetus''.
