Expected learning outcomes
The aim of the module is to provide and make the student acquire:
1. basic knowledge of the possible interactions between viruses and animal populations, including human (zoonoses) from the "One Health" perspective (DOC 1.10) and the ethical and legal principles underlying the veterinary profession (DOC 1.1)
2. an overview of the most important viral diseases of animals (multispecies, ruminants, pigs), the relative features and possible epidemiological and ecologic and pathological scenarios, the related national and international epidemiological situation (DOC 2.10), in order to make the student acquire interpretative tools of the interaction and evolution of the viral diseases in animal populations and the related risks of zoonoses. (DOC 2.5, 2.6)
3. knowledge and skills on how to carry out diagnostic activities, mainly in animal groups (DOC 1.15, 1.21, 1.24) and the different types of prophylactic measures and the understanding of how they must be chosen and applicated on the basis of the scientific, logical, economic and epidemiological approach according to promote animal health and welfare (DOC 1.3, 1.32, 1.36, 2.9)
4. the broad principles that inform the guidelines for the control of the infectious diseases and the biosecurity measures (DOC 1.28, 1.36), according with the rules relating to animal movement, notifiable and reportable diseases (DOC 2.7), with particular reference to the safeguard of human health.
