Verification of learning:

Assessing the acquisition of skills required includes an oral exam to verify the knowledge of the Course content. In addition to the Course content, will be evaluated also the capacity to communicate effectively using geographic language.

Distance exam modality - COVID-19 period: Oral exam on Microsoft Teams.

Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with a critical understanding of sustainable tourism with a view to promoting local development.
Expected results:
I. Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of the main territorial dynamics of sustainable tourism by comparing different experiences at international, national and local level; knowledge of the potential impact of tourism on local development.
II. Applied knowledge and understanding: being able to analyze and understand the phenomenon at different scales.
III. Making judgements: being able to express an independent and critical judgement on the main topics discussed in the classroom and acquired by reading the teaching material provided.
IV. Communication skills: being able to communicate effectively using geographic language.
V. Learning skills: the ability to learn will be verified through the direct involvement of students.

Contents

The course will consist of 15 lessons (30 hours) and aims to combine theoretical and conceptual aspects to methodological and operational aspects about sustainable tourism. This topic will be studied in its evolutionary characters and following the different and most important schools of thought. Particular attention will be given to the interaction between tourism activities and the territory and, will also highlight the relationship between local development and alternative tourism, as well as implementation and control policies for the promotion and maintenance of tourism sustainability.
