ROMANCE PHILOLOGY
The oral exam consists in testing:
- basic knowledge of romance linguistics and ecdotics;
- ability in translating and analysing a text chosen from the program;
- linguistic and stylistic competence;
- literary and historical context.
Knowledge of the birth and development of the Romance languages (Portuguese, Castilian, Catalan, Occitan, Franco-Provençal, French, Sardinian, Italian, Romanian).
A second module of 30 h will include the initiation to the textual criticism and the reading of the Livre des sept sages de Rome, that is to say the French prose version of the Book of the seven wise men.
Introduction to the contents and methods of Romance Philology. Romance languages.
Transition from Latin to Romance languages: linguistic and historical-cultural aspects.
Fundamentals of textual criticism.
The "Livre des sept sages de Rome" in prose: this French text will serve as a practical laboratory of the notions learned during the previous modules.
