The Landscape and planning unit aims to provide the student with concepts and tools for the landscape design oriented in environmental sense and therefore a project aimed to respect for natural processes but also to the social, cultural and economic dimension.
The unit is part of the larger module Design in historical-cultural contexts and contributes to the development of the design theme chosen for the entire module by the contract teacher who will be entrusted with the Architectural restoration course.
With respect to the project referring to a specific territorial context chosen for this academic year and to the design topic, the student must take into account, within the work assigned to him, 5 project requirements or key concepts - 1. contextualisation, 2. processuality, 3. integration between urban processes and environmental processes, 4. differential quality 5. collective management and empowerment - and that is coherent with the social, cultural, economic and physical context in which it must be inserted, with the expectations of local societies.
At the end of the course the student has:
1. knowledge and ability to use the 5 design requirements or key concepts that guide the definition of the design of transformation of landscape to any scale in which synergistically interrelate different aspects and problems with the support of theories, major approaches in the international literature, methods and tools for the mobilization of knowledge for environmental and landscape planning;
2. the ability to apply a) the design requirements by creating a project that meets all the requirements and is therefore contextualised, procedural, able to integrate natural and urban processes coexist with each other, respecting the differential quality of the territory, environment and landscape, manageable in a collective way; b) methods and tools to mobilize knowledge useful for the elaboration of plan and design at any scale;
3. autonomy of judgment in selecting the most suitable design actions to prepare a landscape transformation design as described above and ability to argue the reasons for the choice;
4. the ability to communicate the design both orally and through maps, drawings, digital product;
5. the ability to reuse the same method, the same requirements, modified or integrated, to other physical contexts with similar or different problems.
