The laboratory aims to develop the ability to translate and critically interpret the Latin literary texts of the early Middle Ages, on the basis of a good knowledge of the linguistic structures of ancient and medieval Latin (phonetics, morphology, syntax), of its fundamental lexicon, of its stylistics. Special attention will be paid to the texts that more than others are in marked linguistic and stylistic continuity with those of ancient and late ancient Latin art prose.
Students will practice reading, translating and interpreting a representative selection of Latin prose texts from the Early Middle Ages. Particular attention will be paid to the linguistic, lexical and stylistic aspects of the texts considered.
The Latin texts will be given in class.
