Students will be required to have a basic knowledge of the history of cinema and of the specificities of audio-visual language. It is advisable that students have completed at least 6 credits (CFU) in Film History and Theory or Audio-visual Landscapes.

Students will receive formative verbal feedback by the teacher during the lectures throughout the module, and as they work through the practical tasks.
Summative assessment is based on the submission of an original short film written, directed and edited by each student during the module.
The module is designed to provide students with basic filmmaking skills, including filming techniques and digital film editing.
This module introduces students to: screenwriting (from the synopsis to the development of a screenplay); camera and filming techniques; digital editing and post-production (techniques and styles). During the module, students will produce their own original short film.

A selected audiovisual contents on specific topics will be provided during the lectures.
The module is structured as a combination of workshop and practical sessions. Each class will start with a short introductory lecture followed by practical exercises, in which students will be encouraged to apply the techniques they have learnt in class to their own projects.
Due to the limited availability of equipment (two cameras and five editing workstations) the maximum number of students is 15 per module.
Module registration will open two weeks before the date of the first workshop. In case of more than 15 requests, the students will be selected through an interview. The exact date of the interview will be made known in a timely manner.
