The preliminary knowledge necessary to adequately face the course is as follows:
a) The knowledge of histology and the macro and comparative microscopic anatomy of the tissues and organs
b) knowledge of comparative physiology of the main organs and systems
c) physiology and biochemical notions relating to immune, respiratory, renal, liver, and heart systems

Assessment Methods

Verification of learning:

1. Knowledge and understanding what the student knows at the end of learning: the student, at the end of the course, will have to demonstrate that he knows the physio-pathological mechanisms responsible for the main alterations of homeostatic systems of the body and the causes and mechanisms they bring to the damage, the body's response, and the repair strategies of the same
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding. The capabilities of correlation and understanding between causes, and pathophysiology of the animal body in response to these stimuli will be assessed.
3. Critical and judgment skills. The abilities of judgment and comparison of the various Paintings of Pathophysiology and their effects on the body of the body will be assessed, also the student will have to demonstrate that he can operate, through examples of practical activity, an assessment of the main prevention and conservation systems of the mechanisms of homeostasis of the organism.
4. Ability to communicate what has been learned. Ability to communicate what has been learned with the use of appropriate terminology and the compilation of a descriptive judgment and if possible, also diagnostic on what is observed during practical exercises.
5. Ability to continue the study autonomously during life. The student will have to develop autonomous study and study skills compared to what is observed during the course using the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the most common work situations.

Teaching period

Second semester

Objectives

The student must acquire 1) the basic skills relating to the general veterinary pathology with particular reference to the physio-pathological mechanisms responsible for the main alterations of homeostatic systems of the body, 2) the mechanisms of compensation resulting from the alteration of the main devices (respiratory, Renal, liver and cardiac). In addition, you will have to acquire skills regarding 3) to the pathological mechanisms that regulate the etiology and the response to damage, inflammation and repair of tissues. In addition, the course is the objective of 4) to provide skills for progressive, regressive and circle disorders. The general objective of the integrated course is aimed at improving and protecting animal health with a view to One Health.

Contents

Frontal lessons: the first lesson will be dedicated to dealing with the issues relating to the organization of the course, the materials used, the examination methods, the material provided by the teacher, to the texts. Practical lessons will be carried out on laboratory biosecurity. In particular, the topics relating to the pathophysiology of thermoregulation, saline and acidic water balance, the immune response, the vascular and hemostasis system, of respiratory, liver, and cardiac pathology will be treated as well as the etiological aspects, the elements characterizing acute and chronic inflammation, the mechanisms of repair of wounds, regressive pathology, and pathological pigmentations, the various circle disorders and provided the elements of the regressive pathology.

Teaching Methods

The integrated course consists of 6 CFUs for a total of 106 hours of which 46 of theoretical lessons and 60 of practical lessons. The lectures take place by submitting Slides while the practical activity takes place in the optical microscopy room with the division into 10-12 students for 3 groups.
During the practical activities, in a microscopic evaluation of the main injuries on organs and systems subject to the course under the supervision of the teachers will be carried out following a guided learning method.
