Lectures:
I – Introduction to botany. Plant cell, plant cell wall, cytoskeleton, endomembranes, vacuole, plastids and nucleus.
II – Plant tissues.
III – Plant organs: stem, leaf, root system.
IV – Plant reproduction and propagation, seeds, fruit.
V – Plant diversity. Evolution, classification, nomenclature, variability. Overview of the main taxonomic groups: Cyanobacteria, Algae, Briophytes, Pteridophytes, Gimnosperms, Angiosperms, Fungi, Lichens. Plant identification. Basic definitions used in phytogeography, biodiversity. The most important plant Families in agriculture, forestry and applied botany. Plant life forms.
Lab:
- Plant anatomy and microscope observation of tissues from stem, root and leaf. Morphology and anatomy of flowers, fuit, seeds.
- Systematics. Species identification using dicothomous identification keys. Herbarium techniques.
- Field survey and collection of species in their habitat.
