Objectives

Students will acquire basic knowledgne on the physiology of reproduction in domestic animals, and will learn the mechanisms regulating the growth and development of male and female gametes. This concepts are propedeutics to the understanding of the principle to be applied in reproductive biotechnologies.

Contents

- Theorethical lessons: Male and female reproductive organs. Regulation of reproduction. Spermatogenesis. Reproductive cycles. Fertilization. Embryo development and maternal recognition of pregnancy. Gemete development and maturation.
- Practical lessons: oocyte collection and processing for in vitro embryo production. Oocyte nuclear staining ed evaluation of its nuclear status before and after in vitro maturation. In vitro fertilization and embryo culture. Morphological evaluation of embryo development. Analysis of semen quality.
