Urban Project modul:
Final oral exam and critical project

Architectural Design modul: The testing of learning modalities will be based on students' graphic and project production in relation to the themes dealt with.

Ancient topography modul:
The examination is coordinated with the design evaluation of the course "City and territory" and consists of an individual interview and a discussion of the project. In addition to the general preparation, the exam will therefore assess the ability and willingness to integrate historical themes within the project.

Objectives

Urban Project modul:
At the end of the course, the student will recognize the relationship between settlement and territory and in particular the methods of construction of the spatial and temporal conditions of sustainability of new urban landscapes-coastal areas characterized by great environmental significance.
The student is able to define projects experimenting different ways of living coastal may involve, in addition to the forms of residential building, new forms of living, meeting the demand of mobility for different profiles of urban populations.

Architectural Design modul: The aim of the educational objectives of the course is to convey instruments linking the themes of environmental design with those of space design, in relation to the different contexts of intervention. The urban and the environmental territory have both experienced a transformation in the methodologies of approach and analysis. The purpose of the course is to convey knowledge aimed at obtaining potential and action from the context. Environmental design restores the focus on a dimension in which history and nature are related. The objective of planning intervention is therefore to establish a relationship between environmental signs and the design of a new urban centrality.

Epistemology of Planning I modul: The student should develop a philosophical understanding of the articulation modernity/postmodernity, in order to understand the main cultural transformations in philosophy, sciences and the arts during the last two centuries. A fundamental aim of the course unit is cultivating the students' argumentative capacities.

Ancient topography modul:
Methodological foundations and empirical examples of historical readings of the area and the city.
The course aims to provide a framework that starts from an overview of the history of the city (and territories), to arrive at a detailed reading of the historical landscape. With regard to the first objective, the limited time available imposes a simplified view of the discipline, without affecting its cultural significance; this view addresses "thematically" the discussion, through two special keys, which structure the course itself, and that are listed below in the "Program" of the course.

Contents

Urban Project modul:
The classes will be related to emerging themes of the project forming a framework of cultural background on the project of the city.
In particular, we address the following topics
The project of the city.
The context. The global city. The breakthrough urban.
Ethics and the project of the territory.
The city according to the artists.
The repair of the city.
The intervening spaces.
The city shapeless.
The landscapes you want.

Architectural Design modul:The syllabus is based on the definition of territorial themes in relation to memory, modernity and history, analysed in a broader dimension. The ways these themes interpret design for the territory will be conveyed, using correlated literature. Taught classes will aim at imparting design instruments. At the same time research will be passed on aimed at understanding the different types of scenario that contemporary theory has built up following the transformation of the city, in an environmental sense.

Epistemology of Planning I modul: Modernity/postmodernity : how to characterize the distinction. A particular attention will be devoted to the evolution of the metropolis, also using novels as evidence

Ancient topography modul: 1. "Form and localization" (of human settlement over time): this theme suggests a vision of the evolution of urban morphology in view of the primary choices of the site (from the origin to the recent expansions de-localized), and leads to the reading of the environmental constraints and to the recognition of residual tracks of these deep "engines" of the insediamental development in the current organization of the city, especially through empirical researches starting by the older examples of urban-territorial structure.
2. Exemplification of the historical-topographical method: history of urban development in Sardinia, even to frame the specific case addressed as the design theme of "City and territory" in an precise historical overview.

Urban Project modul:
The lessons of the block will be referred to the emerging themes of the project and is collected in different materials that form a framework of cultural background on the project of the city.
These materials will be available on or students during the course. Students will be given assistance both for the interpretation of the contents of teaching materials related to the topic of the project, both for the study of the bibliography.

Teaching Methods

Urban Project modul:
The workshop aims the design of coastal areas of the city characterized by problems of interface between urban dimension, size, infrastructure and environmental concerns, as well as an advanced process of privatization of the coastal strip and, in this sense, public space, through the 'processing of projects at different scales that activate new modes of urban space design.
small workshops (3/4 students each)

Architectural Design modul: The teaching method focuses on the relation between science research and design. The purpose of the workshop is to understand the relation between architecture and territory, meant as the quest for public and social space.
