Objectives

Provide the basic knowledge on the origin and evolution of biological complexity , in general, and animal, in particular. This will be obtained by analyzing the organization and structure of the major animal phyla and their morpho-functional systems, with particular attention to processes and strategies of reproduction and development

Contents

The world of living things. The domains and kingdoms.
- Animals' main buaplans . Intra-and interspecific interactions, predation, parasitism, colonies and societies. Mimicry .
-Invertebrate physiology
Integument, nutrition, respiration, circulation, excretion and reproduction (sexual and assesuale). Embryonic and -Post-embryonic development.
- the major animal phyla.

Teaching Methods

Theoretical lessons with audio and visual didactic supports. In vivo observations and dissections in the laboratory of species belonging to the main phyla of invertebrates (cnidarians, annelids, arthropods, molluscs, echinoderms) used as a case study. Observation by light microscopy of wet mount preparations of the major tissues and / or organs (gills, tracheae, ovaries, testes, and others).
