ECONOMIC AND TOURISM GEOGRAPHY

Learning outcomes of the course unit:The course is aimed at providing students with the basic knowledge of economic geography with particular reference to tourism. Geography appears as a privileged discipline to study spatial phenomena. Main economical geographical theories will be presented, with topics including population and the effect of economic phenomena over the environment. The attention will be also directed towards the spatial changes determined by the different human activities, these including tourism.
Course contents:Geographical space, economical space, the geographical region, the natural environment and the economy, population, the organization of space: agriculture, industry, services, communication.
Globalization, urban systems, tourism: directions and regions, geographical factors of tourism locations, diversity of tourism spaces and their kinds, problems and organizational choices of tourism spaces, applications of tourism statistics, paradigms and models.
