ENGLISH LITERATURE

The course aims to develop the competences, relating to English Literature, needed in the context of Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation. The development (and remediation) of the theme of alterity will be analysed. The historical/literary and cultural context is the necessary frame for the text analysis.
The course aims to help the students acquire the following knowledge/competences:
A) basic knowledge of English Literature from Victorianism to nowadays (tradition/ innovation/ significant elements and most representative writers);
B) introduction to the literary genres of the novel and the short story;
C) thematic analysis of literary texts exploring the development of the theme of alterity in its various aspects (e.g. geographical origins, learning abilities, religious/sexual/political preferences, etc.);
D) study of the texts remediation: “rewritings” in painting, cinema, TV series, etc.
