Objectives

Medical Statistics:
- Ability to perform spatial, temporal, and frequency measures;
- Ability to make tables and plots;
- Ability to perform a simple statistical analysis.
The course aims to provide students with the tools of the scientific method, understanding and operational capabilities of the principles of classical physics, with particular emphasis on topics that are used in nursing fields.

Contents

Medical Statistics:
1. DATA MANAGEMENT
Experimental and observational studies. Study design. Variables. Frequency distribution. Tables and graphs.

2. DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS
Central tendency and variability indicators.

3. SAMPLING AND INFERENCE
Populations and samples. Sampling procedures. Hypothesis tests.
The experimental method. Measurement units and dimensions of physical quantities. Kinematics: time, position, velocity, acceleration. Mechanics: force, mass, Newton's laws, energy and work. Conservative and non-conservative forces. Conservation laws. Fluid and gas: pressure, Stevin's law, Archimede's Force, Bernoulli's law. Ideal gas, kinetic theory of gases. Thermodynamics: thermal equilibrium, heat and energy.Essentials of oscillations and waves. Essentials of linear optics.
