MICROBIOLOGIA
At the end of the course the student will be able to reconstruct family trees, to interpret the segregation of the diseases presented, to know how to diagnose a genetic disease At the end of the course the student knows the basic concepts of General Pathology and General Pathophysiology,
necessary for the subsequent development of specific skills in the phisiotherapic field. The student is able to use the
acquired knowledge for understanding the pathogenesis of disease and for the treatment of the same illnesses. In particular, the aim of the course is to describe the cellular, molecular, and functional mechanisms that are at the base of the general etiology of cellular adaptations, mechanisms of damage, repair and cell death, inflammation,
immunobiology and immunopathology, oncology, and some pathophysiological changes.
General properties of bacteria: cell structure/function, cell membranes and cell walls, surface structures and inclusions, flagella and Motility. Chromosomes and other genetic elements. Nutrition, Growth, laboratory culture and metabolism of Microorganisms. Bacterial genetics. Pathogenesis of bacterial infections. and Host responses. Microbial growth control.
General properties of viruses: definition, classification, structure. Virus-host interactions: replication, latency and persistence. Viral oncogenesis. Viral genetics, referring to variants and pharmaco-resistance. Pathogenesis of viral infections. Control of virus infections: active and passive prophylaxis; therapy , antiviral drugs. Basic viral diagnostics.
Microbial and viral diseases.
