: the course aims to provide the basic knowledge for field soil survey. Students will acquire a background that will enable them to classify soils through the worldwide diffused soil classification systems. Attention will be focused on soil physical-chemical features in order to acquire abilities in analytical data evaluation and interpretation. Students will be updated on the latest researches (ethnopedological approach) on interactions among indigenous local knowledge and scientific knowledge. Emphasis also will be given to the soil degradation and pollution processes. Pedothecnical treatments for soil protection and restoration will be also proposed.
