Final oral exam
Acquisition of an adequate kwowledge both of the legislation concerning the Italian penitentiary system, and of constitutional principles, supranational sources and the panorama of case-law on the subject.
Legal sources of penitentiary law, with specific reference to constitutional principles and relevant supranational instruments. Prison treatment; study of the personality of sentenced prisoners and resocialization treatment; elements of treatment; the rights of the detained person. Prison regime. Support tools and rewarding instruments; special
prison regimes (special surveillance system and suspension of the normal rules of treatment). Suspensory measures of enforcement of sentences.
Changes in the ratio of the execution of the criminal sentence: alternative measures to imprisonment; early release; restrictive and rewarding regimes concerning the access to alternative measures to detention and prison benefits. Proceedings.

It is recommended to consult a code containing the rules on penitentiary system, in revised edition .
Analysis, through lectures, of national legislation, supranational instruments and relevant judgments (national and supranational) regarding the penitentiary system.
Lectures will be supported by an educational visit and workshops at one or more prisons.
Readiness to offer individual assistance also in English to incoming students.
