Written test and oral examination. During the course two ongoing written tests, recommend but optional.
The course aims to provide students with the tools of the scientific method, understanding and operational capabilities of the principles of classical physics.
The experimental method. Measurement units and dimensions of physical quantities. Kinematics. Mechanics. Newton's laws, momentum, angular momentum, energy and work. Conservative and non-conservative forces. Conservation laws. Oscillations and waves. Fluid and gas: pressure, Stevin's law, Archimede's Force, Bernoulli's law. Ideal gas, kinetic theory of gases. Thermodynamics: thermal equilibrium, heat and energy, heat capacity, I and II law of thermodynamics, entropy. Basic Optics. Basic electromagnetic phenomena. Electrostatics. Magnetostatics. Electromagnetic properties of matter. Time-dependent electromagnetic fields. Maxwell's equations. Electromagnetic waves. Emission, absorption, and scattering of radiation
