The lessons will focus on theoretical knowledge of the main bacterial diseases, parasitic and nutritional birds. Preliminarily will be given general notions breed poultry followed by a description of major diseases. In particular, each of the following pathologies:
Vitamin nutritional deficiencies (A, D, E), mineral deficiencies, Colibacillosis, avian cholera, tuberculosis, clostridial, Salmonellosis, Mycoplasmosi, Coccidiosis, Cryptosporidiosis, Nematodes., mycosis, mycotoxicosis (Ergotism, ochratoxins) will need to know:
a) Etiology, comprising the morphological characteristics of pathogens, and in particular the pathogenicity factors
b) Epidemiological aspects in general with special attention to the mode of infection and transmission of microorganisms, to the knowledge of any predisposing factors, to the spread of diseases over time and space, the prevalence rates, incidence, morbidity, mortality and lethality.
c) Interaction between infectious agents and host organism, the different body''''''''s defense mechanisms as a function of the different pathologies.
d) Pathogenesis: pathways of introduction of the pathogen, the diffusion mode and location in the body, elimination pathways.
e) Clinical symptoms.
f) Injuries pathological.
g) Course and Prognosis.
h) Clinical diagnosis, anatomical, histological, laboratory.
i) Direct and indirect prophylaxis.
j) Therapeutic Overview and animal health measures.
Practical will be carried out in the last period and will be carried out through visits to poultry breedss where the student will be able to acquire, the procedures to follow to diagnose, prevent and control of poultry diseases and in the laboratories of the Zooprofilattico Institute in which will be performed necropsy examinations aimed at the implementation of bacteriological and virological tests.
