Objectives

The course aims to provide the preparation and fundamental knowledge of General and Inorganic Chemistry required for the frequency and understanding of the following courses in Chemistry.

Contents

Atomic structure. Nomenclature: oxides, hydroxides, acids and bases, salts. Valence. Balance of chemical reactions. Oxidation number. Redox. Chemical bond. Introduction to quantum and undulatory mechanics. Orbitals. Hybridization VB. Solutions. molarity and molality. Colligative properties. Construction of chemical structures according to Lewis. Acid-base equilibria. Conjugate acid-base pairs. Definition and calculation of pH. Equilibria of hydrolysis. Buffer solutions. Geometry of the molecules: VSEPR. Elements of inorganic chemistry.
