Objectives

Acquisition of fundamentals of Organic Chemistry, with particular reference to the rules of IUPAC nomenclature, stereochemistry and reactivity of the main functional groups. Basic knowledge leading up to the study of Biochemistry.

Contents

Atoms, molecules, and chemical bonds. IUPAC nomenclature of organic compounds. Acids and bases. Stereochemistry. Physical, chemical properties and reactivity of: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, ethers, halogenated compounds, arenes, amines, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids and derivatives, carbohydrates.
