Recommended prerequisites: attendance to the course of Mathematics.

Ongoing written tests or general written test, oral test is optional

Basic knowledge of the principles, theories, concepts and terminology of the discipline. Expertise in the application of concepts and methods to analyze, formulate and solve problems in mechanics, thermodynamics, calorimetry, fluid mechanics, electromagnetism.

Kinematics - 5 hours

Average and instantaneous velocity - average and instantaneous acceleration - Motion with constant velocity and motion with constant acceleration - Motion in two dimensions

Dynamics - 5 hours

Definition of strength and mass - The three laws of motion - Gravity - Hooke's Law - Condition of translational equilibrium - The inclined plane - Static and dynamic friction forces

Work and Energy - 4 hours

Work of a constant force - average and instantaneous power - Kinetic Energy - Potential energy and mechanical energy - theorem of mechanical energy conservation - Conservative and dissipative forces .

Thermodynamics and Calorimetry - 5 hours

Temperature and thermal equilibrium - Thermometers - temperature scales – The Celsius scale and the Kelvin scale - Work and heat - The first law of thermodynamics - Heat exchange between bodies at different temperatures - Specific heat and heat capacity - Changes of state - latent heat.

Fluid Mechanics - 4 hours

Pressure - A unit of measure for pressure - Pascal's Principle – Stevin's law - Archimede's Principle - Continuity equation of fluids - Bernoulli's theorem.

Electricity, magnetism and electric circuits - 5 hours

Electric force and electric charge - Conductors and insulators - Coulomb's law - Electric field - potential difference - Electrical power - Resistance and Ohm's Law - The Joule - Resistors in series and parallel - Magnetic field - electromagnetic waves
