ENGLISH LANGUAGE II - MOD. I
All courses are divided into two parts:
a. a linguistics module (30 hours of face-to-face lectures),
b. a language module (75 hours of face-to-face language lessons)
Mediazione Linguistica (indirizzo Studi Interlinguistici e Interculturali)
Linguistics module: students will be made aware of the complex nature of human communication, will learn the basic concepts of pragmatics and discourse analysis, and will develop the knowledge required to analyze an oral or written text from a pragmatic point of view.
Language module: students will develop their oral and written communicative skills at the B2 level of the CEFR.
Mediazione Linguistica (indirizzo Letterature e Filologie della Modernità Europea e indirizzo Lingue e Culture della Contemporaneità)
Linguistics module: students will deal with the most important aspects of human communication, will learn the basic concepts of pragmatics and discourse analysis, and will develop the knowledge required to analyze an oral or written text from a pragmatic point of view with a focus on literary texts.
Language module: students will develop their oral and written communicative skills at the B2 level of the CEFR.
Scienze del Turismo Culturale (Inglese come Lingua X = esame da 12 CFU).
Linguistics module: students will learn the basic concepts of communication in tourist promotion, and will develop the knowledge required to analyze a tourist text.
Language module: students will develop their oral and written communicative skills at the B2 level of the CEFR.
Scienze del Turismo Culturale (Inglese come Lingua Y = esame da 6 CFU).
Language module: students will develop their oral and written communicative skills at the B2 level of the CEFR.
Mediazione Linguistica e Culturale.
The linguistics module will be dedicated to an introduction to Pragmatics and Discourse Analysis. The following concepts will be dealt with: pragmatics and discourse analysis; clause, utterance, proposition; text and discourse; context and co-text; deixis; texture, cohesion, coherence; semantic and pragmatic meaning; under-determination of semantic meaning in irony, metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole, simile; speech act and felicity conditions; Grice's cooperative principle; Leech's politeness principle; Brown and Levinson's politeness theory and main strategies. Some verbal exchanges and text types will be analyzed in class.
Scienze del Turismo Culturale
The linguistics module will deal with the properties and characteristics of tourist communication in English; strategies and techniques of tourist promotion. Some texts will be analyzed in detail in class.
The language module is common to all degree courses and aims at developing students' oral and written communicative skills at the B2 level of the CEFR
