Objectives

Objective of the course is to provide the student with an exaustive praparation on the main physiological mechanisms which regulate the function the nervous, respiratory, digestive and urinary systems. In particular, it will be examined in depth the integrative features of functions involving these systems and their interactions with those studied in the previous part 1 of the course of Human Physiology (Physiology I) as well as their interactions with the body in its whole.

Contents

Systematic Physiology of the Nervous System: sensory and motor systems, sensory organs, high order functions.
Respiratory Physiology: morpho-functional basis, mechanic of ventilation, gases' exchanges and transportaion, ventilation/perfusion, respiratory regulation of the acid-basic equilibriun, chemical and nervous control of respiration.
Kidney Physiology: morpho-functional basis, processes of water, ions and metabolytes' filtration, reabsorbption and secretion. Kidney regulation of the acid-basic equilibriun, endocrine functions. Urination.
Physiology of the Digestive System: morpho-functional basis of the digestive function (secretion, motility and absorbption) along the digestive tract and annexes. Swallowing and defecation.

Teaching Methods

90 hours face to face, to be integrated by theoretical-practical exexcitations on topics covered in class.
A list of learning objectives, which set out the principal points to be assimilated by the student, is done first. Then the physiology of each apparatus/system will be approached separately. Finally, the physiological functions will be dealt with using an integrative approach.
